Harmonizing Style and Functionality in a Modern Home

The young couple from this project wanted a new home where they could raise animals, raise a future family, and entertain their friends and loved-ones when they weren’t busy being work-a-holics.

The wife loves deep rich dark colors with a touch of rustic appeal while the husband prefers light, bright, and more clinical environments. We were able to combine both in this 4 bedroom 4 bathroom home so that both husband and wife are happy and love spending time in their new abode.

The kitchen has two major functional areas: the cooking range and surrounding storage for the husband to cook meat, and additional ovens and separate prep area for the wife’s baking. These types of food preparation are what each is good at and its what each loves to spend time doing when in the kitchen. The large range has a pull-out cabinet nearby for spices and condiments, as well as a pull-out utensil cabinet to keep spatulas, cutting boards, and knives off the counter for a clutter free environment. Clean, yet everything at hand.

Gray and white modern kitchen with wood accents

While the baking area accommodates dividers above the oven for a variety of baking sheets and dishes, a separate counter for preparation away from the main cooking/cleaning area is always available, and a nearby pop-up mixer cabinet is handy at the end of the island. This ensures dual types of food preparation without the cooks getting in each other’s way.

The clean-up area sports a beautiful farmhouse sink in stainless steel, a countertop bottle cleaner (if you’ve not seen one before), and a pull-out trash cabinet nearby with double bins and a drawer atop to store garbage liners for changing the bags out in a pinch. The bright and elegant quartz counters with a soft vein and subtle undulated ceramic surfaces of the tile splash add a timeless completion to this culinary space.

The larger-than-life custom wood range hood displays a beautiful rustic hickory apron that is mimicked in the adjacent living room fireplace mantel. Rustic hickory continues in the master bathroom cabinetry as well as the en-suite bathroom of the main guest bedroom. In the meantime, brighter and smoother materials are selected for the powder and hall guest bathrooms, still boasting matte black faucets, hardware and accessories to keep the flow of certain elements of their design consistent throughout.

The laundry room is without windows due to its location in the home but is rich in color and will brighten anyone’s face just as much as the sun! It’s beauty comes from the depth of the blue hues of the cabinetry and continues in the tiles of the elaborate dog shower complete with glass shower door and hand-held shower wand. A great deal of convenience when caring for all their furry friends.

Grilling is practiced multiple times a week in this family so they now enjoy a 10 foot outdoor kitchen just a short distance from the indoors. This convenient and lovely area hosts sink and spray faucet, undercounter refrigerator, built-in grille with stainless steel hood, and additional storage. Granite in a brushed texture is a perfect choice for outdoor kitchens. The rich wood finish of the robust cabinets compliments the garden; the cabinets and counter are extra deep to accommodate the large grille creating generous spaces for food preparation, a night in, entertaining, and buffet style offerings.
